The UK housing crisis has hit another low point (yes that is right, another!) with soaring rents, rising homelessness and demand far outstripping supply.

Today, 50% more people are sleeping rough in London compared to a decade ago and more than 300k people are on council waiting lists for social housing, according to a new report published by Centre for London.

The reality for Londoners is grim, with a shocking 25% of Londoners living in poverty after paying their housing costs. Furthermore, the average Londoner spends approximately 40% of their average household income on rent, compared to 26% across England. Demand for temporary accommodation in London is increasing and already the highest in the country.

There will be a sequel! This report is part one of a set of two reports. This report aims to outlines the problem, providing a comprehensive overview of the problem. The second part of the report, which is due to be published during winter 2023, explores the possible solutions to give Londoners good quality affordable homes. We will post a link to this report once it is published.
